About Our Radon Testing

It is very simple to have your home tested for radon gas!  Beard Radon Services uses the FemtoTech CRM510 Continuous Radon Monitor to test homes.  The home must have closed home conditions for a minimum of 12 hours prior to the placement of the monitor.  Closed home conditions also require that all windows and doors remain closed during the test.  Normal in and out activity is allowable, but do not leave windows and doors open for any length of time during the test.  (Go into the house and immediately close the door behind you!)    Closed home conditions should be maintained during the entire time of the test so that false readings are not obtained!  Once the monitor is placed in the home, the test should run a minimum of 48 hours.  Built in anti-tampering features allow the FemtoTech CRM510 to indicate if any disturbances that would affect the results of the test occurs during the test time.  The FemtoTech CRM510 is a blind tester, meaning that the homeowner will not see any results or activity during the test.  The FemtoTech CRM510 takes an hourly sample and records the results.  Once the test is ended the results are immediately printed out and a report and a copy of the test results strip will be provided. The test results strip will show each hourly reading and at the end of the strip an overall average of your test results.   Be aware that the radon gas reading is not a fixed number and that each hourly reading will fluctuate to reflect the constantly changing pressures that draw the radon gas into your home.  Also be aware that over time your radon gas readings could change.  The Environmental Protection Agency recommends that you have your home tested every two years.  The Environmental Protection Agency has established that readings up to 3.9 pCi/l are in the acceptable range.  Results 4.0 pCi/l and higher is considered elevated and the home should be considered for mitigation.

About The Radon Mitigation System

Homes that have been tested and have elevated radon gas readings (4.0 pCi/l or higher) should be evaluated for a radon mitigation system.  The Environmental Protection Agency has established radon mitigation standards for the installation of radon mitigation systems.  Once installed, radon mitigation systems are very effective in reducing your indoor radon level into the acceptable range.   Beard Radon Services uses top quality materials - not just the minimum required under the guidelines.   With a system from Beard Radon Services you will get a quality system that will provide effective service for years.  Each home is different.  Placement of the mitigation system can vary from home to home subject to the Environmental Protection Agency guidelines and the specific physical characteristics of the home.    Beard Radon Services will evaluate the home and indicate the options for the placement of the system conforming to the most current mitigation standards.  To ensure continued effectiveness once a radon mitigation system has been installed, the Environmental Protection Agency recommends that the owner should have the home re-tested every two years.  For further information or a free evaluation of your home for a radon mitigation system please contact Beard Radon Services at (502) 639-1559.
